What is this all about?
Welcome to this new space, I’m glad you’re here.
My name is Mariza, and I’m a Clinical Psychologist and Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist living in London.
As a Greek migrant, I’ve learned that “home” is rarely just a geographical place. It is something we build and rebuild throughout our lives; a feeling, a memory, a relationship, a moment of quiet, a return to ourselves.
Being someone who has redefined the meaning of home many times, someone who has lived in between countries, cultures and languages, I’ve spent years searching for what “being home” truly means. Over time, I’ve realised that home is not only a place we return to, but a way of living — a life that holds meaning, depth, and connection with ourselves and others. It can be a feeling of grounding in our bodies, or a brief moment of inner quiet when all our thoughts pause.
I created this blog as a way of returning to what feels like home for me: exploring the deeper, hidden parts of our human experience; the thoughts and fears we are too scared to articulate, the underlying emotions that live just beneath the surface, and the vulnerabilities we try to hide yet which ultimately shape who we become. We may often be afraid of our inner world, but to me, it’s the very thing that makes us so fascinating, unique (and uniquely messy!) human beings.

Personally, a place I often feel at home is the therapy room. I am always astonished by how grounding and inspiring simple human connection can be. Don’t tell me what you think I want to hear; tell me what you are scared to say to everyone else. This is where the core of human nature lies— in our vulnerabilities. That honesty is what makes this space unique, and I wish I could bring more of that in all human relationships.
In this space we can finally be vulnerable and human enough to recognise that we are all, at times, anxious, lonely, and frightened, and that underneath all of it, what we want is to be loved, understood, and connected. In the therapy room, our shared human vulnerability becomes a kind of home, even if only for a moment in time.
Through the essays I will share in Inner Home Notes, I hope to create a space that feels gentle, reflective, and deeply human, almost like a digital therapy room. A place where we can slow down enough to notice what is happening inside us, and perhaps come a little closer to our own inner home.
Here, you’ll find essays, reflections, and poems inspired by the extraordinary conversations I have with people, and by my own ongoing journey of understanding, healing, and belonging.
Thank you for joining me; I’m looking forward to sharing this unfolding path with you.
And if you’d like to begin exploring your own inner home, here are a few gentle reflection prompts:
1. What does “home” mean to you?
Is it a place, a person, a feeling, a moment, or something else entirely?
2. Recall two or three memories when you truly felt at home.
Use all five senses. What do those memories reveal about what your own sense of “home”?
3. How close do you feel to your inner home right now?
What small action or shift could bring you a little closer to it?
